Journey to the Ourika valley to have tea with a local Berber family and relax with traditional Hamman baths at one of the local spas of Marrakech. Morocco will be an exciting worldly experience unlike anything you’ve ever encountered.
You will be met at the airport by our driver for a 20 minute transfer into town. Our riad (a traditional Moroccan guest house) is located in the heart of the medina (old town). This will be our haven in the bustling city of Marrakech for the next 3 nights.
Our local tour guide will meet you for an afternoon of exploring through the souks (markets) and learning about the impressive history and architecture throughout the old town, including a converted palace. A traditional meal will be served at your riad, to discover the delicious tastes of Moroccan cuisine.
After a delicious breakfast, we will depart at 09:00 for an hour's drive into the foothills of the High Atlas mountains. Our first stop will be for mint tea in a local Berber house to learn about the traditional countryside way of life. We will then have a short camel ride through the mountainside before driving half an hour along the riverside through the beautiful, lush Ourika Valley. A local mountain guide will take us for a 1.5 hour hike to the beautiful Setti Fatma waterfalls to work up an appetite for a hearty lunch next to the river.
Dinner will be an adventure of heading to the 100 food stalls set up every night on Djemma el Fna square. We will have a traditional outdoor BBQ to the background of local street performers.
After a good introduction to what Marrakech has to offer, perhaps you could treat yourself to a traditional Moroccan hammam bath and massage in a local spa. For a bit more adventure, you could try a half day of quad biking through the rock desert palm groves on the outskirts of Marrakech. The day is yours to enjoy a bit more shopping or exploring, or perhaps to visit one of the beautiful gardens, such as the Majorelle Gardens of Yves St Laurent, or even the nearby "Secret Garden." There are many wonderful restaurant options in the area that your host at the riad could recommend.
Depending on your flight time, you may have extra time to explore the medina or other areas. Departure transfer to Marrakech airport will be organized by the local host.
All extra activities are paid in cash upon arrival in Morocco. We will reach out to all guests prior to the trip to collect flight information as well as to request a response for those who wish to reserve a spot for an activity.
While in Marrakech we stay in a traditional accommodation called a “Riad.” These beautiful buildings consist of rooms overlooking a central garden, usually with a fountain as the focus point.
