About Your Home Base

Neighborhood & Accommodations

Our accommodations in Cape Town are located in and around Kloof Street which is a neighborhood that has a good balance of comfort, safety, and excitement. We have 1 large private 16-bedroom house along with several 1-4 bedroom homes all within walking distance of each other and plotted around Kloof Street Neighborhood with walking distance to restaurants, cafes and the workspace.

Workspace

Our workspace is situated within walking distance to our accommodations. The Workshop 17 franchise will host us with the Kloof Office taking us through the grind. Some of the best views of Cape Town are visible from our workspace. We have our own open designated space for Remote Year as well as plenty hot desk options scattered throughout.

Program Costs & What's Included

Down Payment:
$1,700

Paid when you officially sign up for a Remote Year program to secure your spot. This first payment shows us your serious commitment to a program and affords us the confidence to begin booking all of your arrangements on your behalf through our travel and city teams.

Fee Per Month:
$2,000

Paid 30 days after your downpayment is submitted. The fee covers everything included in that city and can be thought of as "paying rent" except instead of just covering your accommodations, you're also getting on-site support, experiences, programming, events, and much much more.

Our team will be at the airport to pick you up and welcome you with open arms.

Accommodations

A private, furnished room in each city, usually in an apartment with fellow participants and option to upgrade.

Why Cape Town in February?

February is a great time to visit in Cape Town. Weather wise you can expect perfectly warm days followed by cool evening. The only big logistical decisions you’ll have to make are which mountain you want to hike in the morning before work and what you’ll be eating for breakfast afterwards. Did we mention you’ll also have an inspiring community of 20-30 people you’ll get to share this experience with? That’s the best part.


Featured Experiences & Side Trips

Just a few of the experiences and adventures you can look forward to having on your program.
Indigenous Escape

Today finds us looking as far back as first generation inhabitants, and how the Khoi-San survived off the ocean. Our host’s Billy & Ronel live in Betty’s Bay and will be showing us how to forage and prepare an edible from the shoreline. The day includes a stop at Cape Town’s other penguin colony, and an optional afternoon hike for those up to it. Billy will have the braai going and look forward to the homemade ginger beer from Ronel! What a lekker day in South Africa!

That Side this Side

Today we’ll see SA from more than one angle. We’ll start with a stop in Redhill, a township in the False Bay region. Experience authentic township food, iskopo and umqombothi (sheep head and traditional beer). Meet local children and learn about how they as a community are overcoming poverty. Our second part, "That Side" is met with wine and braaing with locals . Meat over flame and always a great salad from the kitchen! We'll be taught how to make Braai Broodjie, our version of grilled cheese on steroids.

Distinctly Africa Safari Experience

Aboard open vehicles, accompanied by skilled trackers, you'll get closer than can ever be imagined to incredible wildlife. What will you encounter as you witness the true meaning of, "The Circle of Life"? Maybe a few of the following: herds of Elephant moving majestically through the bush, 100's of Cape Buffalo, a lone Leopard, critically endangered Cheetah, Giraffe families, prides of Lion, Baboons, Antelope, or (with a lot of luck) the endangered White Rhino. This is truly a "once in a lifetime" African reality.

Remote Year is a platform for professionals who want to live and work in different cities around the world. The company curates work and travel programs, providing participants with unique cultural experiences, travel logistics and support, and ongoing access to a global community. In joining a program, you’ll travel to a new city each month on a set itinerary with a group of fellow professionals from various industries and nationalities.
